This is an Irish translation of my song, Red Skates, which will be released later in 2022. I translated it into Irish as a way to showcase my Irish language which is currently sitting on the Endangered Languages List and almost certain to die out. Every year in Ireland, 1-17th March is known as Seachtain an Gaeilge (Irish Week) to help promote the use of our language. This is my contribution to that this year. The song is about having faith in yourself in the face of a bully and never giving up. It is an acoustic performance to highlight the Irish instrumentation - bodhrán and fiddle. (more info on Seachtain an Gaeilge can be found at snag.ie )
Catch me on tour this summer in Canada to promote my upcoming album, Freefall. I will be doing this a little different - a one-woman sustainable cycling album tour. To find out more, go to 0Stella.com
lyrics
Scátaí Agus Blaithfholt nGael (Skates And Beautiful Flowing Irish Hair)
Iompaigh chlé ag na soilse tráchta,
Gabh síos an caolsráid
Bróga, scaoilte,
Chomh sciopthaí ná deora ag sileadh síos a haghaidhe
“Seas díreach”, guth a mathar
Ansin, beidh do dhroim togha
Ná bac le na gasúir
Tá siad uilig sa dara háit
Scátaí agus blaithfholt nGael
S' tú an duine ag roghnú
Iompaigh chlé ag na soilse tráchta
Ró-dhéanach ag tíocht ar ais
Ní gá dó í a aithint,
An bhean, an bhean, san aghaigh a thuilleadh
Cuimhní ag dul thar bráid
Sráide s’ naimhde
Seas díreach, a deir a máthair
Aingeal ag scátáil ar bogoighear, ar bogoighear.
Scátaí agus blaithfholt nGael
S' tú an duine ag roghnú
Sé deacair nuair a mbíonn tú thart
Nuair atá cruachás, s’ tú ag deireadh na féide.
Cuimnigh leat
S' tú an duine ag roghnú
Níl tada sa domhain níos fearr ná thú
Scátaí agus blaithfholt nGael
S' tú an duine ag roghnú

politically charged lyrics with a touch of irony and rebellion. 0Stella draws comparisons to Paramore, Garbage, Lana Del Rey and The Frames. The zero-waste advocate (thus the zero in her name) is currently on a year-and-a-half-long cycling album tour across Canada and Europe....more
